ON Semiconductor's FDMF3180 is an advanced Smart Power Stage (SPS) solution tailored for high-current, high frequency, and synchronous buck DC-DC converters. With fully integrated MOSFETs and advanced driver IC current and temperature sensors, this device offers a compact, optimized solution for demanding applications. By integrating Power MOSFETs with a driver IC, the FDMF3180 enables precise module-level current and thermal monitoring, providing an output signal (IMON) for real-time module current reporting. This eliminates the need for inductor DCR current sense or resistor sense methods. Furthermore, the device includes accurate thermal monitoring (TMON) with a 0.8V output at 25°C and an 8 mV / °C slope. While the FDMF3180 offers advanced performance and monitoring capabilities, ON Semiconductor advises against using it for new designs and recommends considering the pin-to-pin replacement FDMF5062 instead. As the future of Smart Power Stage solutions, the FDMF3180 sets a new standard for optimized performance and integrated monitoring features
