GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe TDA5140A is a bipolar integrated circuit used to drive 3-phase brushless DC motors in full-wave mode. The device is sensorless (saving of 3 hall-sensors) using the back-EMF sensing technique to sense the rotor position.FEATURES• Full-wave commutation (using push/pull drivers at the output stages) without position sensors• Built-in start-up circuitry• Three push-pull outputs: – 0.8 A output current (typ.) – low saturation voltage – built-in current limiter• Thermal protection• Flyback diodes• Tacho output without extra sensor• Position pulse stage for phase-locked-loop control• Transconductance amplifier for an external control transistor.APPLICATIONS• VCR• Laser beam printer• Fax machine• Blower• Automotive.
