The LTC4053 is a standalone linear lithium-ion battery charger IC designed by Linear Technology (now part of Analog Devices). It provides a complete constant-current/constant-voltage charge profile for single-cell lithium-ion batteries. The device operates from a USB port or an AC adapter input, making it ideal for portable devices like smartphones, tablets, and portable media players.Some key features of the LTC4053 include a programmable charge current up to 800mA, a 4.2V float voltage, and a thermal regulation circuit that adjusts the charge current to limit the die temperature during high power operation. The charge cycle terminates when the charge current drops to one-tenth of the programmed current, and an onboard timer prevents prolonged charging in case of a fault condition.Additionally, the LTC4053 includes programmable inputs for selecting charging profiles, as well as status pins for indicating charge termination and fault conditions. The device is housed in a small 10-lead DFN package, making it suitable for space-constrained applications.
